Youth retreat session one
So now I'm tell you about the youth retreat because I'm at home now and the internet finally works. So the them was oasis. We were supposed to relax ( it actually worked) I had lots of fun. There were lots of Napoleon jokes especially at the talent show. Anyway the sessions were awesome. The first night(our first session) Brad talked about how most Christians in Winkler follow "the list" (Read your bible every day, pray many times a day, memorize verses, etc.) and measure them selves up to it. He also said that people who live the list have this curse on them and they will feel it because they will never be able to live up to it. He told us to through out our lists (this does not mean reading your bible and doing all those things are wrong, but we should trust Jesus to show us when we need to do them) and to go to Jesus because Jesus nailed our lists to the cross for us. Jesus wants to release us from our burdens (" his yoke is easy") but following the list is basically a burden. ( I don't know about you but I got a lot stress form "the list"). Brad also said the Jesus was telling us to forget the list and "love me and Love people" Jesus wants your heart and your love and wants to set you free. You need to get rid of the list to do this. By the way we had all been given "the list" and were supposed to check off the ones that were true for us and I got 1 out of 20. I did feel really bad about that but it made me see how much of a burden it put on me. ( I think without going by the list and just listening to God I want to do that stuff more ) Anyway and the end of session brad said he was going to be the image of Jesus and if we wanted he would take the lists that we had and he nailed them to a cross that we had there. During that session I could really feel Jesus taking away my list and I really do feel lighter now. ( I'll write about the other sessions and other parts of the youth retreat later)
